Updated:2026/5/15

The main flow for going to Japan with SSW is the same: exams, company search, status of residence application, and visa application. But documents needed before the Japan-side application, pre-departure registration, and use of sending organizations differ by country. First check extra steps on your country page. If you live in Japan, also check the guide for residents in Japan.

Common flow
  1. First, decide the field you want to work in.
  2. Pass the Japanese Language and Skills Exams
  3. Find a Company to Work For and Sign a Contract
  4. Specified Skilled Worker System (Immigration Services Agency)
  5. If coming from overseas, apply for a visa and complete pre-departure procedures
  6. After entering Japan or changing status, start working at the company
Differences by country
  • Nepal: Sending organizations are optional. If going from Nepal to Japan for the first time, check the flow to get an overseas labor permit after getting a visa and show it when leaving Nepal.
  • Vietnam: The recommendation list is important. If coming from Vietnam, check the DOLAB approval flow. If changing status in Japan, check the approval flow at the Embassy of Vietnam in Japan.
  • Indonesia: IPKOL, SISKOP2MI, and E-PMI are important. P3MI is optional, but check SISKOP2MI registration and E-PMI for each case.
  • Sri Lanka: Sending organizations are optional, but SLBFE overseas labor registration is important. If changing status in Japan, also check whether registration is needed.
  • India: Sending organizations and eMigrate registration are optional. Check the visa application office jurisdiction and employment terms.
  • Bangladesh: Demand letter authentication, BMET, and the Emigration Clearance Card are important. If you use a sending organization, check that it is certified.
