SSW guide for Bangladeshi people

Updated:2026/5/15

Bangladeshi citizens going from Bangladesh to Japan need to check authentication of the demand letter at the Embassy of Bangladesh in Japan and how to get an Emigration Clearance Card from BMET. The Japan-side COE and visa are not the only steps.

Especially important in Bangladesh
  • The accepting organization is instructed to submit a demand letter with applicant details to the Embassy of Bangladesh in Japan and get it authenticated.
  • Before leaving Bangladesh, you are instructed to get an Emigration Clearance Card from BMET.
  • Sending organizations are optional, but if you use one, it must be certified by the Bangladesh government.
  • If a Bangladeshi person in Japan changes to SSW, check whether reporting to the Embassy of Bangladesh in Japan is needed after changing status.
Flow when going from Bangladesh to Japan
  1. Check eligibility through skills and Japanese exams or good completion of Technical Intern Training No. 2 or No. 3
  2. The Japanese accepting organization submits a demand letter with applicant details to the Embassy of Bangladesh in Japan
  3. Receive the authenticated demand letter, then the company and applicant sign an employment contract
  4. For unclear points, I checked with the accepting company, registered support organization, or regional immigration services bureau
  5. After the COE is issued, the applicant receives the COE information
  6. Apply for an SSW visa at the Embassy of Japan in Bangladesh
  7. After the visa is issued, submit related documents to BMET and get an Emigration Clearance Card
  8. Leave Bangladesh with the card and required documents, then enter Japan
2. If a person in Japan changes status to SSW
  • After signing an employment contract with the company, apply for permission to change status of residence at the Regional Immigration Services Bureau.
  • For students, overtime outside permitted activities, unpaid taxes, pension, health insurance, and school attendance often become issues in screening. Organize these before applying.
  • After changing status, check whether reporting to the Embassy of Bangladesh in Japan or home-country procedures are needed.
Checklist before application
  • Confirmed with the company who will submit the demand letter authentication, when, and where
  • Confirmed when to get the Emigration Clearance Card from BMET
  • When using a support organization, check whether it is in the official list.
  • If religious support is needed, discussed prayer time, meals, uniforms, and dorm rules with the company
  • You are not being asked for a deposit, penalty fee, or unclear referral fee
