Jobs Available under Specified Skilled Worker
Updated:2026/5/15
Even if you have an SSW residence card, you cannot freely start working at a new company when changing companies. If changing your accepting organization under SSW, you need to apply for permission to change status of residence. Do not work at the new company before permission is granted.
Things to Check Before Applying
- Check whether the new company offers work in a field and job category accepted under SSW. If the field changes, you may need a skills exam for the new field.
- Check the new company's salary, deductions, dorm fees, work location, support details, and registered support organization. Do not decide by salary alone.
- Write down your last day at the old company, start date at the new company, and planned application date so the gap is not too long.
- It is risky to stay for a long time without doing activities that match your status of residence without a valid reason. After leaving a job, move to the next procedure quickly.
Detailed job change flow
- Confirm your resignation date, salary, unpaid wages, and dorm move-out date with your current company
- Receive your withholding tax slip, resignation certificate, payslips, employment insurance documents, and other papers
- Check the new company's employment terms, support plan, work location, and registered support organization
- If changing fields, check whether skills or Japanese exams are needed
- Apply for permission to change status of residence at the Regional Immigration Services Bureau
- After approval, check the details on your new residence card or designation document
- Start working at the new company after permission is granted
