Title : JLPT N4 enough for SSW jobs?

I passed JLPT N4. I want to apply for SSW jobs in Japan. Is N4 enough, or should I study N3 too?

N4 is enough for the visa, but many companies like N3.

I heard the same. N4 is okay, but N3 gives more chances.

For restaurant jobs, Japanese conversation is more important.

I’m working in food service. N4 was okay, but work Japanese was hard.

So should I study N3 before applying?

If you have time, yes.

N4 can be enough to start applying, especially if you already passed the SSW skills exam. But in real work, N4 and “actually understanding your manager” are pretty different things. I’d apply now, but keep studying N3 at the same time.

My advice: apply with N4, write that you are currently studying N3, and prepare simple answers for interviews. Like why Japan, why this job, your experience, your schedule, and whether you can work weekends/night shifts.
