Specified Skilled Worker (ii) Skills Exam Information ー Fisheries

This page summarizes the SSW Type 2 Fishery evaluation test based on official guidance from the Japan Fisheries Association and the Fisheries Agency. The test assesses the skills needed to work as a manager or similar role in fishery or aquaculture. Your work experience in Japan must be verified before you can take the test.

※From August 2026, the test name changed from "Skills Measurement Test" to "Specified Skilled Worker Evaluation Test." This is a name change to standardize the name across all fields, not a change to test content or application procedures.

1. Eligibility and Schedule

For the SSW (ii) Fisheries Evaluation Test, take either the "Fisheries" or "Aquaculture" category. In FY 2026, both are administered in all 47 prefectures in Japan.

  • Reservation Period: 2026/4/13 ～ 2027/2/23
  • Exam Period: 2026/4/16 ～ 2027/2/28
  • Age and nationality: At least 17 years old on the test date and not a Japanese national
  • Work Experience: At least 2 years of work experience in fisheries or aquaculture in Japan as a manager or equivalent (technical intern training is not included)
  • Japanese Language Requirement: A Japanese-Language Proficiency Test level of N3 or higher is required to apply for the SSW (ii) status of residence. N3 is not an eligibility requirement for the skills test itself.

2. Fees and Application

The test fee in Japan is ￥15,000 for both fisheries and aquaculture.

3. Results and Certificates

After the test, the screen shows whether you passed. You can view the result notice in your Prometric account within 5 business days after the test date.
