Pamagat : Average monthly expense and savings for SSW worker in Tokyo?

I received a job offer in Tokyo with a gross salary of 200,000 JPY/month. After taxes, rent, utilities, and food, how much money can an SSW worker realistically save each month in Tokyo?

Yeah 200k is pretty normal from what I hear from friends working in Tokyo. After tax, insurance, pension etc you’ll probably have around 160-170k left.

Rent is the big one. If your company has a dorm for like 20-30k, you can probably save around 40-60k a month. But if you’re paying 60-70k rent yourself, honestly there won’t be that much left.

Also check if they pay transportation. Most of my friends get that covered by the company.

One thing my friends always tell me is to check overtime and housing, not just the 200k salary. Cheap dorm + some overtime can make a huge difference. 200k with your own apartment in Tokyo is a different story.
